Daniel Kariko - SpeculationWorld
Born in Novi Sad in the former Yugoslavia (now northern Serbia), Daniel Kariko has documented issues of land use in sensitive environments. His series SpeculationWorld surveys the half-built housing developments of an interrupted economic expansion in the Florida wetlands. Both on the ground and using an aerial perspective, Kariko reveals the geometries of new suburban neighborhoods carving out natural space—and their assumptions about American lifestyle—which were prevalent until the global economic bust. Kariko is presently an Assistant Professor and Area Coordinator of Photography at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
